This sacrificial club is from Malekula one of the islands that makes up Vanuatu. These clubs were used for sacrificial killing of pigs. Pigs and pig killing rituals were and still are important in nearly all of Vanuatu. Along with other offering the ritual of killing pigs increases the social rank of the individual. He acquires a greater mana and esteem both on earth and in the after life. Some of these clubs are plain other have faces and decoration. One suggestion is that the clubs with faces are owned by higher ranking individuals.
